Range Restaurant San Francisco is Now Closed

As fans of Range, we are saddened that the restaurant is now closed after nearly 12 years of operation. But co-owners Phil West and Cameron West have turned the space into The Beehive, a 60’s themed cocktail bar which is an amazing bar. Learn more at https://www.thebeehivesf.com.

Was located at:

842 Valencia Street
San Francisco
CA
94110

This is now the location of the exciting 60’s themed bar – The Beehive!

Range was a unique dining experience in the Mission district along Valencia Street. While it was a pioneer in elevating fine dining in the area, the increase in restaurants in the location plus changes in the economy and demographics ultimately led the owners to pursue a new avenue with The Beehive and Third Rail.

Range opened in 2005 and quickly earned a Michelin star in 2007. Range was the only Mission district restaurant to earn a Michelin star during this period.

Range maintained its high level of service and sophistication during its almost 12 year run. Range was listed in the SF Chronicle’s Top 100 in 2016 before it closed.

As big fans of Range (as well as Kuleto’s among other notable recent closures), we will sorely miss this spot but will be sure to be frequent visitors to the new Beehive bar!

We will our fingers crossed that Range will re-open in another location!

Best restaurant in San Francisco. Be warned: make a reservation in advance (or else you will be stuck with a 5pm or 10pm dinner time if you call the same or day or even the same week). I’ve been here twice: both with a larger group (their max is 6 people because they are an NYC hole in the wall type place). Also have been here for an intimate dinner for two with my sister which was great.

I would say getting a cocktail is A MUST; innovative, delicious drinks offered! Also, you can be fine with just one main meal and be filled… their portions are healthy, hearty meals! Unless you have a large wallet or don’t eat meat/fish, there should be a good option for the main meal.

This is a wonderful, cozy, restaurant that is not pretentious at all and is hands down some of the best food I have had in the whole Bay Area!

Coffee rubbed pork shoulder

This pork shoulder was a shoulder to cry on! It’s one of the BEST dishes ever!

Please share the recipe!?!? I can’t go on with life until I can eat it again!

Sincerely yours

Soup & salad

Range had some of the best soups and salads in SF! Not to mention the cocktails, desserts AND the mains. We are now stuck at home in shelter in place. Fortunately we got a box of veggies from the Ferry Building with a bunch of little gems. I’d LOVE a few Range recipes to make some of the wonderful little gem salads! They ALWAYS had everything you could want — fresh veggies, the perfect amount of tangy dressing, and then something crunchy to complete the dish.
